SAVE THE DATE - 2012 Sacramento Valley Collaborative, Brandman University , 3001 Lava Ridge Court, Suite 250 , Room 136, Roseville , CA . 

The Collaborative is an open forum promoting the exchange of information and resources for the care of our military, veterans and families. Interested service providers, veteran organizations and community programs that provide support for active duty, veterans, the National Guard and Reserves, wounded warriors and military families are encouraged to attend.  The meeting provides networking and an informational program to facilitate our working together. Please distribute far and wide. Thank you for your help in spreading the word about this great educational and networking opportunity.

Giant Steps Therapeutic Equestrian Center is pleased to announce the opportunity for Veterans to join us Tuesdays, January 10 – March 13, 2012 from 12:30 – 2:00 pm for a 10-week equestrian program.  The Giant Steps Veterans’ Program is open to all U.S. Veterans and is free of charge for participants.  

 

Topics to be covered:

§         Safety around horses

§         Grooming and tacking

§         Groundwork (leading)

§         Horse behavior

§         Riding basics (mount/dismount, walk/halt, direct reining, trotting, posting, two-point)

§         Barrel racing, pole bending, drill team patterns

 

Benefits include:

§         Improve core strength, balance, posture, coordination and emotional well-being

§         Increase confidence, self-assuredness and ability to overcome fear

§         Develop relationships (with other participants, staff, volunteers, and horses) while engaged in a relaxing, challenging and fun sport

§         Enhance leadership skills from working independently with an understanding and compassionate equine partner
